Lost one Amercian Tiger Datnoid today
Sadly, due to unknown reason, saw the AT body on the ground.
This AT has been behaving strangely for past one to two weeks.... sometimes staying on top alone for quite sometime... could have caught some kind of virus... not very sure on this.

DIY 1.2W LED for feeder/Bichir tank
DIY 1.2W LED for feeder/Bichir tank
Using all spare material, i was able to DIY a lighting for the 2 feet tank.
The original lighting inside caught water and got spoilt long time back.
Originally housing only feeders so lighting was not important.
Only recently got some small Bichir so decided to install a lighting that is cheap and usable.
So, i just use my spare Ikea warmlight LED (one bar of 0.6W and adapter 0.6W total 1.2W power consumption) and spare oyama paper, and of course some silicon to glue the LED to the glass.
Ikea LED is very durable and if i only switch on 5-10 minutes a day on average, it can last a very very long time before i need to tear it down and redo.
Anyway, to do it again only takes less than half an hour with ease.

Planted Tank - Day 8
Day 8
Using Eden mini canister... (didn't expect myself to use canister again... the thought of carrying heavy weight container into the toilet.... lucky this is very small... no need big muscle...)
Just hope i secure the joint part correctly and no more water leakage....
I also added frogbit plants to combat the nitrate in the water, so hopefully can introduce more shrimp again.

Red shrimp dying
Can see a few red shrimp collapsing.. as in like dying.
They still jump around though.
I know the tank cycling is not complete, so i can only think of topping up more of my other fish tank water(actually is the sump tank water) to here, bringing the ratio between fish tank water and tapwater higher.
Now the tank is around 50% full of water.
The lights are also out now, so hopefully tomorrow i will have some survivors.

Big Bullfrog
Today, finally see my biggest Indo Datnoid ate the big bullfrog.
The arowana also starts eating the big bullfrog since few days back.
I feed them on average one big bullfrog a day now if i have the stock.

More plants to planted tank
Added more plants to the planned planted tank.
I think i have overdo it this time.
As mentioned by Diana, every new tank setup is different, and even same type of plants will find its new life.
So, it is better to try different plants and see how the plants work out.
I am assuming some plants will dominate and some will eventually disappear.
Hope with heavy planting, i do not have to wait too long to flood the tank ! ^_^
Edit: Some plants seems to be dying off very fast... I think i will have to flood the tank so that all plants are submerge.
Flood the tank to few inches.

2nd NGT dead
First Day of Chinese New Year... one NGT missing.... kind of like disappear.... no signs of the NGT and no dead body or any body parts etc...

Doing Siesta 5-4-5 lighting.

Install UV for sump tank.
Introduce UV filtration to the 6 feet comm tank since there are many hairlike furs on the side glass of the sump, definitely due to the lighting in the sump for the plants.
Most likely also need to introduce more plants to the rest of the compartments if the UV does not solve the problem completely.

Aglae under control
Using the sand and relocation of the tank from direct sunlight, plus the additional plant helps to eradicate algae problem.

Comm Tank Updates - Feb'13
Comm Tank Updates - Feb'13
Switched to pink/blue T5 as i find the whitelight T5 too bright for my eye.
Lost a NGT recently and the 'cage' on the right used to house red arowana are also no more, so i lower the cage to allow the blood parrots to rest inside.

Updates on planned planted tank
My 2 feet planned planted tank is now ready for substrate, plants and water....
The Aqua Up Z Series LED is really bright and elegant...
Behind the LED is the silent cooling fan to reduce the temperature of the water.

HMF for feeder tank
After using the HMF method on my feeder tank for about 3 weeks, now the water is always clear for at least a week and hardly any feeder fish is found dead or floating... Of course there are still feeders that got eaten up and their heads on the ground.. but only a few...
I still change water weekly on this feeder tank and clear the bottom so that the black spronge do not need cleaning so soon. At least save me the trouble to clear the filter wool now as there is no need for it anymore.
